Abstract of Presentation

This presentation traverses systems thinking narrative since its inception and traces its evolution and its impact. It juxtaposes systems thinking with post-modernism and asks if post-modernism is a natural progression of systems approach to understand the world around us. Juxtaposition generates interesting insights and comparisons.

This presentation revisits systems metaphors and revaluates the impact and limitations of metaphors on systems thinking. Whether metaphors could not express the full power of systems thinking or whether limitations lay somewhere else? This presentation also addresses ontological and epistemological issues underlying systems thinking due to its domain agnosticism.

Author believes in natural progression of human thought. This progression is visible if we break the silos of methodologies and approaches. All approaches have worked and all of them have limitations. This is not only true for social theories and societal systems, but physical sciences as well.
