About TMCE

The about pages gives you general information about the TMCE Symposia series. If you are looking for information about the current Symposium, please visit the '2014 Welcome' page. More information on past TMCE Symposia is available by selecting the appropriate year. Should you be interested in sponsoring opportunities, read the appropriate section of the website or contact the organizing committee.

Mission of the TMCE Symposium Series

The series of TMCE Symposia is dedicated to the further development of the scientific, technological and practical knowledge of competitive engineering and to acting as a catalyst of the knowledge transfer between academia and industry.

A number of items are considered to be crucial to the symposium series:

  • Industrial Tutorials as a start
  • Social functions on every day of the symposium
  • Keynote talks
  • Technical sessions
  • Discussion platforms
  • Poster presentations
  • Proceedings
  • Special Issues in journals

History of the TMCE Symposium Series

Since its inception in 1996, the symposium has grown to a mature and well-established platform for the exchange of scientific and industrial knowledge. An overview of key characteristics is given in the following table.

TMCE experiences

In due time, the TMCE website will disclose pictures, descriptions and programs of the past symposia. These can be found by selecting a year in the main menu. We already offer a complete overview of the past TMCE proceedings and related journal publications.

Focus of past Symposia

Each symposium is assigned a special focus, which serves as a basis to specify topics, key note speakers, and industrial tutorials of the event.

Focus of the First International TMCE Symposium (1996)
Tools and methods for concurrent engineering

Focus of the Second International TMCE Symposium (1998)
Collaboration in design and engineering

Focus of the Third International TMCE Symposium (2000)
Human aspects of product conceptualization, detail design, engineering and production.

Focus of the Fourth International TMCE Symposium (2002)
Knowledge intensive technologies and knowledge transfer in the globalized world.

Focus of the Fifth International TMCE Symposium (2004)
Life cycle engineering of products

Focus of the Sixth International TMCE Symposium (2006)
Technological innovations for product development

Focus of the Seventh International TMCE Symposium (2008)
Scientific, technological, economic and cultural collaboration and competition between East and West

Focus of the Eighth International TMCE Symposium (2010)
Virtual Engineering for Competitiveness

Focus of the Ninth International TMCE Symposium (2012)
Mobile and ubiquitous technologies for global product development and production processes

Focus of the Tenth International TMCE Symposium (2014)
Sustainability and cyber-physical systems

Focus of the Eleventh International TMCE Symposium (2016)
Virtual development of intelligent multi-physics-based systems

Focus of the Twelfth International TMCE Symposium (2018)
Implementation, application and utilization of smart systems

Organisation of the TMCE Symposium Series

On a biannual basis, the TMCE symposium is organised according to the highest scientific standards and with an extreme focus on personal care. To archieve this, the organisation starts long in advance, with its home base at the Delft University of Technology (Prof. Dr. Imre Horvath).

Organisational scheme

The main organisation is depicted in the following chart:

TMCE organization chart

Each occasion, the organising task force, symposium secretaries and of course the exectutive chairpersons are a blend of both local organisers and Delft staff members. The organising teams of the past symposia will be listed soon in the corresponding years.

The TMCE symposium has a considerably large review panel, which is kept close to the symposium topics and robust review management systems are employed to forward judgments, comments, and advice to the appropriate persons. If you want to participate in this review process, please contact the secretary by email.
