Lausanne, Switzerland, 2004

The fifth International Symposium on Tools and Methods for Concurrent Engineering (TMCE 2004) was held from 13 to 17 April, 2004, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. Over 200 participants from 32 countries attended this scientific event.

The focus of the TMCE 2004 symposium and the accompanying workshops was on engineering methodologies and technologies for the competitive life cycle engineering of extended products, from the early concepts, to service and EOL strategies and practices, through concurrent design and manufacturing. The trends in all kinds of extended product related activities, such as globalization of markets and e-business and e-supply, preliminary design, concurrent and collaborative engineering, e-engineering, virtual and physical product modeling, e-procurement, e-manufacturing and the digital factory, human interfaces, environmental impact, and social issues.
