Prof. Dr. Brian Norton

Short Biography

Dr. Brian Norton has made significant contributions to the development of solar energy technologies in buildings. He is author of two books and co-author of nine books, over 450 research papers, including over 200 in major international learned journals. He has supervised forty-five doctorates, has nearly 10,000 citations with a h-index of 50. He serves as Associate Editor of the international journal “Solar Energy” and serves on eight other editorial boards.

He is Vice-President and Treasurer of the European Sustainable Energy innovation Alliance and on the board of the International Energy Research Centre. He was president of the Dublin Institute of Technology, now TU Dublin, and is a Principal Investigator in Ireland’s National Research Centre for Energy, Marine and Climate.

He is currently leading a major project on Decarbonisation of Buildings for the EASAC. He is a Fellow of the Royal Irish Academy of Engineering, the Energy Institute and Engineers Ireland, the Higher Education Academy, an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, and a Chartered Engineer.

His awards include the Napier Shaw Medal of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and the Roscoe Award of the Energy Institute.
